Essex Crossing
New York City, New York
Located on the Lower East Side, Essex Crossing is a planned mixed-used development that will be built on six acres of the Seward Park Extension Urban Renewal Area (SPEURA). Essex Crossing is comprised of nine sites that will total 1.9 million square feet of commercial, residential, and community space. The Market Line, inspired by the world’s greatest public markets, is a continuous three-block shopping stretch that will feature an array of restaurants, retail, and entertainment. Essex Crossing will be a mixed-income residential community that includes rental and homeownership opportunities. Five hundred of the 1,000 apartments will be affordable for low, moderate, and middle-income families. In addition, Essex Crossing will contain ample community and park space, as well as a movie theater.
SHoP Architects and Taconic Partners are jointly developing Essex Crossing. Construction broke ground early Summer of 2015 and is to be completed by 2024.
