Medical University of South Carolina- Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Women’s Pavilion
Charleston, South Carolina

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is currently working to replace its current 28-year-old Children’s Hospital.  A Charleston businessman, Shawn Jenkins, has gifted $25 million to help build the new MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Women’s Pavilion.  The facility will be approximately 650,000 square feet and cost $235 million in total.  The new facility will provide more spacious, family-centered amenities and expanded services.  It will have an expanded neonatal intensive care unit, an entire floor dedicated to pediatric cancer, and the most comprehensive pediatric heart center in South Carolina.  In addition, the hospital will include a labor and delivery unit, a special care nursery, and several women’s services.

MUSC expects to break ground in 2016, and the new hospital is expected to open in 2019. Robins & Morton has been selected as the general contractor for the project.
